Take Five Minutes to Protect Public Broadcasting

Urge Congress to continue supporting your local stations

Congress passed a compromise 2011 budget bill that preserves the majority of federal funding critical to your local public radio and television stations. Corporation for Public Broadcasting funding went from being completely eliminated in earlier bills to receiving a 0.2 percent cut in the Continuing Resolution (CR) and overall public broadcasting funding was cut by seven percent.

Our work is not done. Public broadcasting funding will again be a target during the FY12 budget debate and we will need you to act again to protect this vital public service.

Please take five minutes today to remind your representatives in Congress how important local public radio and television stations are to hundreds of thousands of their constituents. We need to continue to make sure our positive message is heard that public broadcasting is vital to hundreds of millions of Americans – a public service that is too important to eliminate.

No matter where you stand on this issue, NOW is the time to share your opinion with Senators Richard Lugar (Indiana: 317-226-5555 or Washington DC: 202-224-4814) and Dan Coats (Indiana: 317-554-0750 or Washington DC: 202-224-5623), and make your voice heard. Also, please consider reaching out to your friends and family by suggesting they visit 170MillionAmericans.org to learn more about the role of Public Media in America’s households and classrooms.

WVUT-TV has joined public television and radio stations across the country in an effort to harness the enthusiasm of the 170 million Americans who watch, listen to or use the services and programming of public media each month. Now, more than ever, our country needs public media as a source of non-partisan news, local cultural programming and non-commercial educational programs. Sign up with the 170 Million Americans project today (170MillionAmericans.org), and join this grassroots effort to engage the support and energy of listeners and viewers across the country.
