Shelter House Project Expected to Move Forward

Posted on February 11th, 2019

The Shelter House project at Gregg Park is expected to take the next step forward tonight.

At tonight’s Board of Works Meeting, the city is expected to award a contract for the renovation work scheduled to take place at the park’s enclosed Shelter House later this year.

Bids for the project were opened earlier this year, but came in higher than expected. The City was awarded a $50,000 Historic Preservation grant last year, and with a match, has just over $100,000 to work with for the project. The lowest bid they received, came in at $148,000.

Regardless, Vincennes Mayor Joe Yochum says the city is committed to getting the project done, and officials have spent the past few weeks looking at where funds could come from to make up the difference.

Tonight’s Board of Works meeting gets underway at 5:00 p.m. at Vincennes City Hall.
