KC Council Supports Inn Keepers Tax Change

Posted on February 13th, 2019

The Knox County Council has thrown their support behind a change in the local Inn Keepers tax.

According to Council President Bob Lechner, the Council didn’t have to make a decision ahead of state legislation that seeks to tax short-term renters. Lechner did, however, say their decision to support or not support the tax legislation would impact how those at the state level vote.

The funds generated by an implementation of the tax would be used to help sustain the Grouseland property, one of the top tourist draws in the county.

The vote wasn’t unanimous, however, as Councilman David Culp voted in opposition. Culp make clear he wasn’t against the decision itself, and in fact supported it. He just didn’t feel the time was right for the county to make their decision.
