County Budget Hearings Wrap Up Late Thursday

Posted on September 14th, 2018

The Knox County Budget hearings have officially come to a close.

The County Council reconvened at 3:00 p.m. Thursday afternoon to not only discuss the numbers presented by nearly 30 department heads, but to also see how those requests matched up to the funds the county is expected to have in 2019. In the end, the bottom line won’t be much different than it was for this year.

For the County Commissioners, their hearing was right on target. Commission President Kellie Streeter says there were no big changes in terms of their request, outside of an increase for Information Technology. The Commissioners are expected to award a contract for the county’s IT work at their meeting Tuesday night.

With the Council now on the same page monetarily for next year, the budget will make its way through the state to the Department of Local Government Finance, who has the power to approve the budget for next year.
