A man pulled from the Wabash River in Sullivan County late Wednesday has been identified.

Sheriff Clark Cottom says 49-year-old David Overbay of Lawrenceville, Illinois died from drowning, according to an autopsy performed yesterday.

Investigators say the truck Overbay was driving became disabled, when he ran off into a ditch along Levee Road, west of Graysville.

Overbay, who had no cellphone, left the vehicle on foot before authorities arrived. He was last seen heading west towards the Wabash river.

Deputies did search the area for nearly four hours, but were unable to locate Overbay.

His body was eventually found in the river by a man in the boat. Police speculate that Overbay attempted to swim across the river.

The incidient remains under investigation pending final testing and toxicology reports.

Sheriff Cottom says foul play is not suspected at this time.
