Phase One of the Main Street Project will take the next step forward this afternoon.
Bids are expected to be opened at a special meeting of the Board of Works at 2:00 p.m. Vincennes Mayor Joe Yochum expects contracts to be awarded at the board’s meeting on April 23rd with construction expected to get underway shortly thereafter.
Due to delays involving wetland mitigation, Yochum says the project will take at least two construction seasons to complete. The work will include widening Main Street and adding a turn lane, new sidewalks, lighting and bicycle paths. Yochum says this is just the first phase of the work which will eventually extend to Clark Middle School.
The city’s Redevelopment Commission is footing the bill for the first phase of the project. The city plans to apply for funding for the next two phases of the work through the Indiana Department of Transportation.
