Two Dead After Morning House Fire

Two people died in an early morning House Fire in Wheatland.

Knox County Coroner Brian Hagen says the fire broke out shortly after 2:00 a.m. at a residence on North Nimnicht Road near Wheatland.

According to Hagen, the bodies have been taken to the county morgue. An autopsy is scheduled to be performed this afternoon by Pathologist Dr. James Jacobi. The names of the victims are being withheld pending notification of family members. The home was a total loss.

Steen Township, along with several other volunteer fire departments, assisted in putting out the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by Steen Township, the Knox County Sheriff’s Department and State Fire Marshal’s office.
