The Director of Knox County’s Public Transportation system says they are on stronger financial ground then just a couple of years ago. Nola Davis, Director of VanGo told members of the Knox County Council last night that they are within 2-percent of their budget projections. She added that they expect to end the year with a budget surplus of about 5-thousand dollars if everything falls right. Council members had sought an update from Davis on VanGo’s operation since the county provides a portion of its funding. Davis noted that its been a tough couple of years with grants that provided funding in the past have been eliminated. VanGo receives 500-thousand dollars in funding through a grant administered by the Indiana Department of Transportation. Davis says in order to obtain the money they have provide in-kind funding. Davis also told council of a new grant they received through INDOT to make dispatching of their vans easier and reduce some of their costs. She says they expect to have the system installed and personnel trained on the equipment by April of 2018.
