A young woman from Vincennes has been named Miss Indiana’s Outstanding Teen 2017.

Ellie Barmes, a student at South Knox High School, was crowned over the weekend during the pageant, held in conjunction with the Miss Indiana Pageant, in Zionsville. Barmes began her success in this year’s pageant by first nabbing the talent portion of the competition last week with her rendition of “Ireland,” before sealing the crown. Barmes also won the interview portion of the pageant. Her personal platform for the competition was “Hope Happens Here: Promoting the Riley Children’s Foundation.” With the win, Barmes punched her ticket to compete in the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Pageant ┬áin Orlando in August later this year.

Haley Begay of Pittsboro, Indiana was crowned Miss Indiana 2017 during the pageant. Both Begay and Barmes had previously won the Miss Metropolitan crowns before advancing to the state competition.
